Position Summary:

The Payment Posting Specialist III performs all payment posting processes, mentors lower-level specialists, performs quality assurance checks as assigned, and assists Supervisor as necessary.


Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Accurately posts all assigned manual and electronic payments to patient accounts.
2. Resolves any edits and reports issues in a timely and accurate manner.
3. Works zero-dollar Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) as assigned.
4. Reconciles payments on a daily basis prior to the end of each shift.
5. Researches posting and billing discrepancies, unidentified payments and/or recoupment to determine appropriate resolution.
6. Acts as a mentor for lower-level Payment Posting Specialists. Assists with training and performs quality assurance reviews as assigned.
7. Assists with supervision of the team when the supervisor is unavailable.
8. Reconciles to control document and uses Excel for logging deposits. Pulls remits from clearinghouse and other websites to post payments.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Knowledge and understanding of insurance benefits and medical terminology is a plus. Must be comfortable interacting with others in an office environment. Must have strong critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; excellent phone and computer skills.


Minimum Education:

High School Diploma/GED

Minimum Experience:

3 years of experience with revenue cycle processes. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.


Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.


Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
